Overview
As the broadband environment continues to spread and develop, the list of networkable devices in the home such as TVs, surveillance cameras, and electrical power sensors, continues to grow. This technology implements safe distribution of OSGi-standard* software bundles to the home gateway (HGW). It thus enables safe and easy cooperation with services provided over the network via the HGW as well as interworking of the various devices in a home network. This technology is already being applied in the FLET’S Joint service that NTT East and NTT West are offering to service providers as a software distribution environment.
Features
- Provides safe distribution of the software required for a service via the HGW that is set up in the customer's home
- Uses OSGi standard for Java-based software distribution
- HGW management function that handles differences in the type or version of HGW
- Provides a common interface for communication with home appliances
Application scenarios
- Interworking with electronic locks for checking lock status and setting locks while away from home
- Interworking with devices such as power sensors and air conditioners for visualization of power use and remote on-off control of home appliances
- Collecting setting information and logging data from devices on the home network for higher efficiency of remote maintenance
- Interworking with sensors installed in the home for keeping an eye on the very young or old or pets in the home
- Interworking with digital TVs and other home appliances for sharing photos and videos among family members
- * OSGi standard: International standard for Java-based software components specified by the OSGi Alliance
