  • We propose a novel scalable network service infrastructure. Its network architecture and control technologies, which take full advantage of general-purpose products including white-box switches so as to configure them flexibly, enable the provision of timely and inexpensive services to meet the needs of multiple customers. At the end of last year, we reached the practical level on the foundation function of the packet layer and we will work on further extending functions, including the optical layer.

  • Wired communication services that have communication and power supply functions are used for crime-prevention and monitoring systems. Communication and power supply lines that are laid separately can result in complicated wiring, but this technology simplifies them and saves resources of the wiring system. Furthermore, EMC technology prevents damage from electromagnetic waves, lightning surges, and electrical hazards and ensures secure and reliable services.

  • In large-scale-network failure management, operators have to manually analyze a massive number of alarms and find failure points by using test tools. We proposed the technology that automatically estimates points of failure to show network failure points. The technology contributes to rapid recovery, reducing OPEX.

  • A high capacity transport network with advanced operations must be constructed economically as the next-generation optical transport infrastructure supporting the NetroShere. We are researching a 1-Tbit/s optical transport system with a reduced transmission cost, low power consumption, and drastically advanced operations based on its element technologies such as a digital signal processor (DSP) with high capacity and optical/electrical devices with low power consumption.

  • NTT, in cooperation with a development community, is committed to PostgreSQL development in order to expand its usage to enterprise areas by scaling out a table to multiple servers. PostgreSQL now has the capabilities of load-balancing for a large amount of simple queries and of pushing down analytic queries to off-load the query execution to multiple distributed servers.

  • Services can be quickly improved and provided to customers by saving labor when testing applications. Regression testing requires a great deal of labor every time it is done. Therefore, this tool facilitates error detection by designing test cases that can detect differences in the behavior of applications before and after changes. It also conserves the labor of testing by generating the designed tests as scripts.

  • In-storage technology with OpenStack Swift
  • This technology is for a novel “in-storage” parallel computing platform that processes various types of media data (images, voice, music, videos) stored in OpenStack Swift, a distributed object storage system. The platform provides users with the computing resources of the storage system and a job management server as a one-stop operation tool. Additionally, the platform automatically deploys applications and performs parallel computation inside of the storage system by uploading both user-defined program code and its data.

  • Operator navigation technology for enterprise systems
  • Many business operations are still performed manually. Therefore, critical mistakes and unnecessary operations are not eliminated because the quality of the performance heavily depends on operators' knowledge and skills. It is also difficult for managers to check their work thoroughly. We have been working to prevent these problems by providing suitable GUI component sets and supporting operators' actions on the basis of their current situation in order to improve work efficiency.

  • Wireless LAN (WLAN) is expected to be one of the technologies to constitute 5G mobile networks in order to accommodate increases in mobile traffic. We are developing WLAN control technologies to achieve more than 2x throughput compared with the existing system (LTE + IEEE802.11ac WLAN) for high density and strict interference environments such as stadiums.

  • High-precision time synchronization/distribution technologies for mobile networks
  • TDD (Time Division Duplex ) mobile base stations need to have times synchronized with GPS (Global Positioning System) satellite signals in 1 µs or less. Some mobile base stations require accurate time information from the GPS via networks, because GPS antennas cannot be installed in the same location. NTT has developed a time synchronization access system that solves these problems.
