During fiscal 2010, NGN was expanded to the entire existing fiber-optic access service area and became available for customers in approximately 90% of Japan's entire geographic area. For apartment buildings, we are promoting fiber-optic broadband via the "optical cabling method," which pulls and installs optical cables into each household.
We achieved nationwide expansion of the FOMA High-Speed service area in December 2008. In December 2010, we began offering an LTE service, "Xi (crossy)," thereby promoting wireless broadband.
Mobile Wi-Fi router
Public wireless LAN serviceWe offer not only broadband services for PCs but also new applications of broadband services such as "Hikari Portable" for the seamless use of home fiber-optic Hikari services, wireless LAN, public wireless LAN (such as FLET'S SPOT) and 3G circuits for diversifying and increasingly personalized Internet handsets such as mobile game gadgets, smart phones and tablet-type handsets.
LTE service
Xi-compatible handset "L-02C"Full-scale ultrahigh speed for Mobile Internet is now available. In December 2010, we began offering an LTE service, "Xi (crossy)," with a maximum speed of 75 Mbps in Tokyo, Nagoya and Osaka. The "Xi" service area will expand to major cities nationwide in fiscal 2012 and will cover 70% of the total population of Japan by fiscal 2014.
Thin low-friction indoor
Free bending optical Our continual innovations that contribute to the dissemination of fiber-optic broadband include thin low-friction indoor optical cables that enabled the installation of optical fibers in apartment buildings in which optical circuits could not be installed due to their narrow lines, free bending optical fiber cords that enabled flexible wiring inside a house and new technologies to expand current optical fiber service areas to all vicinities.
