Our activities for 2017 ITU World Triathlon Yokohama
ITU World Triathlon's first live tracking system
With the 2020 Olympics in sight, we carried out an experiment to introduce a live tracking system with which triathletes' performance data can be collected and released real-time.
What is a live tracking system?
The live tracking system collects location information, speed and other data from the sensors triathletes are wearing from Wi-Fi antennas installed along the road. This will achieve real-time data analysis and distribution.
About the experiment
In the 2017 ITU World Triathlon Yokohama, data was collected from elite male and female triathletes cycling and running to verify data accuracy and the time lag when this data was distributed.
We aim to offer a far more engaging spectator experience, support athletes and operators to improve their performance and running of events, in order to broaden the full scope of triathlons, including para-triathlons.
NTT Group will evaluate and promote the deployment of data analysis in the ITU World Triathlons from 2018 onward.
