Temporary researcher

■Research subject-1:
Research of optical devices for space-division-multiplexing transmission

The subject of this study is developing the optical filter andcoupling technologies that are fundamental technologiesto developing optical devices, such as optical fibre amplifiersand multiplexing/demultiplexing devices, used in a space-division-multiplexing (SDM) transmission system.
The SDM transmission system is expected to increase the transmission capacity beyond that of a conventional system by employing multi-core and multi-mode fibres, and requires new optical devices different from conventional ones used in a transmission system employing a single-mode fibre.
Candidates must have knowledge of optics and optical fibre transmission, and experience of design and analysis by using a simulation tool and/or optical measurement with instruments.

■Research subject-2:
  GaN-based FETs

Gallium nitride and related materials are very attractive for making high- speed and high-power devices. In NTT, we have investigated the growth technology of nitride semiconductors and developed the fabrication process of the GaN-based electronics devices. The high-speed and high-power GaN-based device technologies will be studied to obtain the integrated circuit for telecommunication. The candidate must have significant experience in the GaN-based device process and simulation, and an understanding of semiconductor physics.
