Energy and Environment Systems Laboratories

Overview of the Laboratories

To realize a sound material-cycle society friendly to the earth and low in environmental impact, the Environment Systems Laboratories is conducting R&D that seeks to realize "Green of ICT." These efforts seek to lower the environmental load of facilities that support information and communication technologies (ICT), including communication networks and data centers. We further seek to realize "Green by ICT," the lowering of society's environmental load by making active use of ICT systems.

Specifically, for Green of ICT, we are advancing R&D on reducing electricity and CO2 through R&D of high-efficiency energy power supply systems, optimal control of energy, fuel cells and batteries. Green of ICT also includes R&D of resource conservation, including extending the lifetime of facilities and recycling.

Agenda of NTT Energy and Environment Systems Laboratories is based on three key concepts-Green ICT, Green materials, and Governance by Green-with the goal of completely eliminating CO2 emissions and waste generated by the NTT Group's business activities by the year 2050.

Specifically, we are promoting the following R&D technologies.

  • (1)R&D to reduce CO2 emissions (Green ICT)
  • (2)R&D to save natural resources (Green materials)
  • (3)R&D to promote environmental initiative (Governance by Green)

Moreover, while maintaining open dialog and pulling together with public interests, NTT Group companies, and other NTT R&D laboratories, we plan to step up our commitment to R&D in the fields of energy and the environment to help bring about the green society.
