The Information Network Laboratory Group is pursuing R&D on flexible next-generation networks that are the clear choice of our clients and business partners through 2020 and beyond, while working on a wide range of technologies that go into robust new network services.
Organizationally, the Information Network Laboratory Group consists of three laboratories: the Network Technology Laboratories that focuses R&D on network architecture, communications traffic, service quality, and environmental research, the Network Service Systems Laboratories that conducts R&D on network services and next-generation information network technologies to implement such services, and the Access Network Service Systems Laboratories that pursues R&D on cutting-edge access services and access support technologies for next-generation networks.
Communications has always been about connecting between people, and sending and receiving vast amounts of information at high speed over long distances. Certainly, these functions remain important, but networks of the future will go far beyond these conventional roles. Next-generation networks will add significantly to the value of every sector and industry in society through a network infrastructure that is ubiquitous as the air we breathe with the ability to connect all manner of things including devices, systems, and services. This will open the way to new industries, revitalize Japan's economy, and create opportunities for a wide range of new services.
The Information Network Laboratory Group is moving to get out ahead of these expectations and epoch changes in the global environment by developing and deploying a new-generation network concept called NetroSphere that our clients and partners will certainly value and exploit as their main network of choice. The NetroSphere concept is in development, and represents a striking new direction in network R&D that defies all stereotypes. Rather than getting caught up in a conventional network or network system, NetroSphere implements universal, disruptive new-generation network services from Japan based on close collaboration with our partners on every detail from artificial intelligence and other sophisticated technologies to cloud-based and application services.
As a member of society and the broader global community, our aim is to relieve stress on the world's resources and environment by implementing eco-friendly information networks with resource-thrifty technologies and by pursuing R&D on ICT technologies that help protect and conserve the environment.
While keenly aware of our responsibility in helping shape the new society now emerging, the Information Network Laboratory Group derives a strong sense of satisfaction and achievement from the many practical technologies we successfully developed, and of course we will continue to grapple with R&D challenges through the far-seeing vision of our researchers in the years ahead.
