Electromagnetic Security Measures
Prevents unintended EM wave emissions from personal computers.
Project
Up to now
- There is a possibility that screen data may be leaked through unintended EM waves emitted from personal computers.
- The screen data from your computer could be stolen without you even being aware.
- This means I can't keep confidential data on my own computer?
At the NTT
A new R&D scheme has been made on a solution that prevents leakage of screen data from PCs in the form of unintended EM radiation through masking at the signal level.
Considerable concern has been raised recently about the problem of information being leaked from information communication appliances in the form of unintended EM wave radiation. It is necessary to devise a solution that is applicable to user preferences and environments, because such as EM shield, which has to be completely surrounding an appliance, is not appropriate for PCs that users directly touch or look at. This led us to develop a scheme for preventing leakage of screen data from PCs in the form of unintended EM radiation by masking at the signal level. We confirmed that the unintended EM waves can be disrupted by generating a blocking signal at the same time as the video signal (i.e., the dot luminance signal). With this technology, information communication appliances can be used anywhere, including outdoors and in public places where EM shields are impractical, secure in the confidence that no one can eavesdrop or intercept your confidential information.
Point!
Leakage of information is prevented by masking unintended EM waves radiated from computers.
