NTT Group, to be constantly prepared against the possibility of a wide range of disasters, provides telecommunication services that are resilient against disasters, and takes efforts to ensure that telecommunication services are available at the time of a disaster. We take this opportunity to introduce NTT's disaster relief efforts.

NTT Group, learning from past disasters, has taken a variety of measures in order to strengthen telecommunication network reliability. To ensure that telecommunication services are not cut off at the time of a disaster, NTT Group has set up redundant relay channels; NTT Group has also stipulated design standards for communication facilities and buildings, steel poles and the like to enable them to withstand disasters.

When a disaster strikes, there are a large number of calls to the stricken area, and it becomes difficult for calls to get through. In such a case, general calls are restricted, and connection is ensured for calls important for rescue and restoration efforts and for 110, 119, 118 and other emergency calls. NTT Group provides Disaster Emergency Message Dial (171) as a means to confirm the safety of people in a affected area; in addition, to ensure that people in disaster-stricken areas are able to make calls, public phones are specially installed at places of refuge, and public phones on the street are made available for free use.

With the goal of prompt restoration of telecommunication service in disaster-stricken areas, NTT Group has prepared mobile power source vehicles, portable satellite devices, mobile wireless base station vehicles and other disaster-response equipment with high mobility across the country. Furthermore, when a large disaster strikes, NTT Group will rapidly set up an emergency structure, including a disaster response headquarters and attend to the prompt restoration of telecommunication services.
