R&D Activities - Road to Service Creation Business Group -

NTT Group announced new Medium-Term Management Strategy, the “Road to Service Creation Business Group” in May 2008. This strategy aims to create new broadband services in cooperation and collaboration with a diverse range of business partners while actively expanding information and communication technologies (ICT) focused on the next-generation network (NGN) and mobile services.
Some of the results of NTT's research and development (R&D) activities and trials, which will play key roles in achieving these goals, are displayed below.

IPTV (new video distribution services)

  • Provision of new video distribution services for the distribution of high-definition video to homes (service name: “Hikari TV”)

Digital Signage

Installations of outdoor displays are increasing on trains and large commercial buildings. Digital signage is viewed as a new advertising medium and NTT is developing technologies for centralized distribution of content to multiple displays via networks and measurement of advertising effects.
