NTTis... Spring 2009

Summary of Financial Results for the Nine Months Ended December 31, 2008

  • Operating revenues decreased ¥109.9 billion (1.4%) from the same period in the previous fiscal year to ¥7,734.3 billion.
Although IP/packet communications services revenues grew as a result of an increase in FLET'S Hikari subscriptions and other factors, voice-related revenues fell due to a decline in the number of fixed-line subscriptions and an expansion of discounted mobile phone services, leading to an overall decrease in operating revenues.
  • Operating expenses declined ¥250.0 billion (3.6%) from the same period in the previous fiscal year to ¥6,719.9 billion.
The decline was the result of substantial decreases in expenses such as the unit cost of mobile phone handsets and agency commission fees as well as a drop in depreciation and amortization expenses.
  • Operating income rose ¥140.1 billion (16.0%) from the same period in the previous fiscal year to ¥1,014.5 billion.
  • There are no changes to the projected financial results for the fiscal year ending March 2009.
Despite the tough business environment due to the economic downturn, there are no changes to the projected financial results for the current fiscal year announced in November 2008 (operating revenues of ¥10,580.0 billion, operating income of ¥1,160.0 billion, and net income of ¥560 billion). In addition, there is no change to the projected year-end dividend for the fiscal year ending March 2009 (¥55 per share; ¥5,500 yen on a pre-share split basis).
