NTT Group is taking a coordinated approach in addressing the global environmental problems that countries around the world are facing.
We are proactively deploying facilities and equipment with outstanding energy-saving performance and using natural energy to minimize the environmental impact of our business activities. If people and objects can be linked using Information Communication Technology (ICT), we can increase business efficiency, reduce wasteful travel, and alleviate traffic congestion, reducing carbon dioxide emissions by society as a whole. NTT Group is undertaking eco-friendly activities under the slogan “Connecting. This is Green.”
We would like to introduce NTT Group’s stance on global environmental issues through an interview between the major league baseball player Ichiro, who appears in NTT Group’s television commercials, and President Miura.

| Miura : |
Today I would like to talk about the environment. Is this a topic of interest to you? |
| Ichiro : |
Well, it is not a matter of being interested or not, is it? This is a very important topic that concerns all of humankind. Speaking of the environment, have you had any personal experience with global warming? |
| Miura : |
Yes, yes, I have. I like to go mountain climbing, but I have noticed that there are less and less snow patches in the summer. |
| Ichiro : |
I see. It is even affecting the mountains. In times like this, what is NTT Group doing under your leadership with respect to the environment? |
| Miura : | There are two “pillars” to our activities which we focus on. |
| Ichiro : |
Two pillars? What are they? |
| Miura : |
First is reducing our own environmental impact within NTT as a group. For example, we are installing equipment with superior energy-saving performance in our network facilities. Second is increasing connections between people and objects to reduce travel, increase efficiency, and cut carbon dioxide emissions throughout the world. |
| Ichiro : | Oh! There it is: “Connecting. This is Green”! |
| Miura : | Thank you. I see you are very familiar with our slogan. |
| Ichiro : |
Rather, I appear in your commercials (laughs). This means, for example, if people use broadband to hold video conferences and would not have to travel, it will reduce the carbon dioxide emissions to that extent, right? |
| Miura : |
That's right. In the same way, online shopping and telecommuting are also green. |
| Ichiro : | Exactly. |
| Miura : | I want the entire group to work together so we can spread the idea of “Connecting. This is Green.” |
| Ichiro : | Why are you committing the group to this degree of action? |
| Miura : | It is because this is what we can do now for the benefit of the earth. |
| Ichiro : | NTT is a large corporate group, and to that extent, I guess it uses a lot of resources and energy. |
| Miura : | Yes, that is all the more reason why we are working to reduce the environmental impact of the group itself. |
| Ichiro : | That would be the other “pillar” of NTT's environmental activities that you mentioned earlier. |
| Miura : |
Yes. Under a plan called “Green NTT,” we are installing solar power systems at group company buildings and actively encouraging the use of natural energy. We are also recycling old telephone books to create new ones and are actively reusing and recycling telephone poles and cables. |
| Ichiro : | Go President Miura! Keep it up NTT! That is how I honestly feel. |
| Miura : | It is very reassuring to hear you say that. |
| Ichiro : | And you can count on me taking on the initiative of “Connecting. This is Green.” |
