Problems associated with global warming and other climatic changes are becoming increasingly serious year by year and there is a call for global initiatives. NTT Group has set up three activity areas, “Green of ICT”, “Green by ICT” and “Green with Team NTT” in order to reduce carbon emissions. In addition to reducing CO2 emissions arising from its own business activities, NTT Group will aim to realize a low-carbon society, working to reduce emissions by its customers and through the environmentally-conscious lifestyle of its employees.

NTT Group is promoting its energy saving efforts at its data centers using cutting-edge technologies such as solar power, which does not emit CO2, air-conditioning controls with efficient ventilation, the use of direct current power supply, which reduces electricity consumption, and through reducing the number of PCs by creating a virtual server which can be shared by a number of users. As a result, NTT DATA's “Green Data Center®” has reduced its annual power consumption by approximately 30%, and NTT DATA and NTT FACILITIES received the METI's Minister Green IT Award 2009 (Oct. 2009).
* While alternating current is generally supplied, use of direct current will reduce the power loss caused by DC/AC conversion thereby improving the efficiency of the power supply.

NTT Group supports “telework”, such as working at home, which reduces CO2 emissions by reducing the number of people commuting.
NTT Group provides “Biz Communicator”, “Mobile Connect” and other solutions that support telework, enabling use of an office PC environment at home through the use of broadband.

NTT Group employees live “eco-lives” at home and in the community in a variety of ways.
NTT Group employees are contributing to the reduction of CO2 emission in a variety of ways at their homes and in their communities, including by attending “eco-driving training sessions” to learn to reduce emissions by improving fuel consumption of company cars and practicing eco-driving techniques in local communities, growing sweet potatoes on building rooftops as a countermeasure for the heat island effect, and participating in their community's cleanup activities and forest preservation activities.
