Dimension Data Meets Total ICT Service Needs of Domestic and International Corporate Customers

Dimension Data becomes wholly-owned subsidiary, accelerating global strategies for corporate customers.

NTT began procedures to acquire the entire issued and to be issued share capital of Dimension Data, a company based in the United Kingdom, which became a wholly-owned subsidiary of NTT on December 13, 2010.
Established in 1983, Dimension Data provides services with a focus on system integration from IT facility infrastructure development to operation and maintenance for customers in Asia, Europe, North America, Africa, the Middle East, and Australia. Dimension Data is in an ideal complementary relationship with NTT Group, which provides networks and data centers in Asia, Europe, and North America, with respect to coverage areas, service lineups, and customer bases. By making Dimension Data a wholly-owned subsidiary, it will be possible to leverage the strengths of both companies and establish new services in the cloud computing era. Going forward, NTT will pursue business synergy with acquired companies under its global strategy while integrating the strengths of group companies to provide total ICT services with the aim of establishing a leading position in the ICT market.

NTT DOCOMO, INC.

Launched XiR ("crossy") Service

XiR Next-Generation LTE Service Offers High-Speed, Large-Capacity, and Low Latency

NTT DOCOMO launched "Xi" service using Long Term Evolution (LTE) system, a new mobile phone communication standard, on December 24, 2010.
NTT DOCOMO has actively participated in the standardization and commercialization of the LTE format. As one of the global pioneers, launching communications services using the LTE format, which is expected to be adopted in numerous countries around the world in the future, is highly significant from the perspective of gaining a competitive advantage in the globally expanding market.
At the time of its launch, Xi will offer high-speed data communications* services with a maximum downlink speed of 75 Mbps, about 10 times faster than FOMA service. Xi will then offer voice communications services by the fiscal year ending March 2012. Coverage will begin in the Tokyo, Nagoya and Osaka regions and later expand gradually to other major cities and regions.

  • *High-speed transmission with a maximum downlink speed of 37.5 Mbps and a maximum uplink speed of 12.5 Mbps (in certain indoor facilities within the Xi coverage area, maximum downlink speed will be 75 Mbps and maximum uplink speed will be 25 Mbps).

Xi's Key Features

Xi is characterized by three key features: high-speed, large-capacity, and low latency. By using these features, it may be possible to provide services such as a simultaneous interpretation service that instantly translates spoken words on the network.

Xi Service Logo

The "X" denotes "the connection between people, things, and information" and "infinite possibility", and the "i" both "individual user" and "innovation". The logo, which resembles the infinity symbol, aligns the letters in a single stream to embody the bonds that organically link people, goods and information, and lead to new innovation.

NTT East Corporation - NTT West Corporation

General Outlook on PSTN*1 Migration*2

NTT East and NTT West announced the general outlook on PSTN migration on November 2, 2010.

In light of the shift in demand to IP services and the end of the useful lives of PSTN switchboards, NTT East and NTT West anticipate beginning the migration from PSTN to IP networks approximately 10 years from now, in around 2020, and completing the migration around 2025. At that time, the provision of some services will be terminated, but adequate advance notice will be given to customers to provide sufficient time to address customer concerns.
Even after the migration from PSTN to IP networks, NTT East and NTT West will make it possible to continue the basic services that customers use on PSTN networks and also continuously expand IP-based services and work to improve customer convenience in order to promote the increased use of IP and broadband services.

  • *1Public Switched Telephone Networks: The networks used for general subscriber telephone lines.
  • *2NTT's "migration" encompasses the migration from PSTN to IP networks mentioned above, as well as the migration from old IP networks to new IP networks (next-generation networks) (scheduled for implementation by the end of March 2013).
