NTT DATA Corporation established a subsidiary, NTT DATA Myanmar Co., Ltd., in Myanmar, a country that has a substantial potential for economic development, and it began operations in November 8, 2012. NTT DATA intends this company to be at the center of its development of new systems for the Asia region, and plans to increase the number of employees to 500 in the next five years.
To date, NTT DATA has established offshore system development centers for the Japan market in China, India and Vietnam. Given the recent progress in democratization in Myanmar, many Japanese companies have been expanding their businesses there. Taking into consideration the significant potential in the IT field, NTT DATA also decided to establish a new office in Myanmar. Myanmar has many advantages as an offshore development center for the Japan market. Some examples are its abundant and talented human resources, cost competitiveness, and the ease with which Burmese people can likely become conversant in the Japanese language due to the linguistic similarity between Burmese and Japanese.
Moreover, the opening of this offshore development center will create jobs by employing local staff, support development of IT professionals through collaboration with the local university of computer studies, and contribute to the modernization and expansion of Myanmar's economy.
NTT DATA plans for NTT DATA Myanmar Co., Ltd. to act as an offshore development center that mainly carries out software development projects outsourced from Japan. In addition, NTT DATA Myanmar Co., Ltd. will look to provide support for Japanese companies operating in Myanmar, as well as to expand NTT DATA's business with local financial institutions and government and public agencies, based on its track record in Japan.
