Acquisition of ISO14001 Certification in the NTT Information Sharing Laboratory Group -- Construction of an environmental management system targeting the research and development of information-sharing network services -- |
On February 23, 2001, the NTT Information Sharing Laboratory Group received certification for the ISO14001 Environmental Management System from the Japanese Standards Association. At NTT, an "NTT Group Global Environment Charter" has been established to clarify basic policies on basic concepts to be adopted and specific directions to be taken by the NTT Group with regard to global environmental problems. NTT is actively involved in protecting the environment. In step with this movement, the Information Sharing Laboratory Group came to realize that "making the results of research and development an environmental concern," a basic idea of NTT R&D, would contribute the most to a decrease in fundamental environmental load. With this in mind, the Group established an "Environmental Policy" (attached) that makes the "creation of R&D that contributes to the environment" an important pillar of R&D activities, and set out to construct an environmental management system. It is for these efforts that the NTT Information Sharing Laboratory Group is receiving certification for the ISO14001 Environmental Management System at this time. Among NTT research laboratories, Access Network Service Systems Laboratories and Science and Core Technology Laboratory Group have already obtained ISO14001 certification. The environmental management system of the NTT Information Sharing Laboratory Group operates throughout its all organization spanning five NTT locations: the Musashino Research and Development Center, where the system is centered, Tsukuba Research and Development Center, Yokosuka Research and Development Center, Makuhari Building, and Ibaraki Research and Development Center. Target of ISO14001 Environmental Management System Certification This certification is the "research and development of information-sharing network services." Future Efforts The NTT Information Sharing Laboratory Group will continue its active involvement in creating R&D results that contribute to the environment and decreasing the environmental load generated during research and development, and will contributive to the construction of a high-quality information-sharing society that is safe, secure, convenient, and comfortable. |
