Nippon Telegraph and Telephone Corporation (NTT; Head office: Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo; President & CEO: Norio Wada) has today established a new company, NTT CLARUTY CORPORATION (NTT CLARUTY), with the objective of promoting the employment of physically challenged people. The NTT Group has long taken a positive approach to the employment of disabled people and aims to create more employment opportunities and expand employment through the establishment of this new company. NTT CLARUTY will establish a portal site for disabled people in which disabled people themselves play a part, and, through the operation of this site, will contribute to the creation of a barrier-free society via the Internet. The company will offer a document electronification service which aims to enable the effective use of information, by such means as the electronification of internal documents and other documents for storage and the granting of search capabilities and access restrictions. NTT CLARUTY will initially employ approximately 20 disabled people, pending the start of operations in April 2005. The employment of disabled people will be increased in the future, the aim being to multiply the number of staff three to four times within the next three years. NTT CLARUTY plans to file for designation as a "special subsidiary" under the Law for Employment Promotion, etc. of the Disabled. Note: CLARUTY is a word coined from a combination of  (French for "shine") + "universal" + "ability," expressing the wish that "the ability of each individual person can shine in a varicolored way like a precious stone."
