Joint Preliminary Call for Participation in the Asian Multimedia Forum (AMF)
Nippon Telegraph and Telephone Corporation (NTT) announced today that the company and 12 leading telecommunications services providers and Internet services providers (see attachment) agreed to jointly establish the Asian Multimedia Forum (AMF).
The AMF aims to promote the development, acceptance and implementation of multimedia applications in the Asia-Pacific region, primarily cross-border applications, through collaboration among the participants who are or will be telecommunications/Internet services providers, information providers, end users, and any other entities that share the same goal.
To achieve this goal, the Forum will coordinate the following activities:
- Promoting participation in various multimedia tests of other projects,
- Carrying out an international multimedia utility test,
- Carrying out joint development of multimedia applications,
- Supporting connectivity to the Internet where it is needed, and
- Organizing/participating in symposiums, demonstrations, field trials and
other related events.
Intended Schedule for Initiating the Forum
In the 2nd quarter of 1997, the joint organizers of the Forum listed in this preliminary call and other potential joint organizers will work out the framework of the Forum, including the organizational structure, the themes of the projects, the guidelines for the international utility tests, and budgeting.
The formal call for participation in the Forum will be made in the 2nd quarter of 1997: interested entities and individuals will be encouraged to respond to the formal call.
