NTT announced the provision of "Number Display" and "Number Announce" services
Nippon Telegraph and Telephone Corporation(NTT) has now determined to provide "Number Display (Caller-ID Display Service)" and "Number Announce (Caller-ID Announcement Service)" on a commercial basis and today applied to the Ministry of Posts and Telecommunications(MPT) to make a change to the "Telephone Service Contract" and "ISDN Service Contract" and handed the service rate to the MPT also.The contents of the services are similar to the trial services, but based on the results of the trial, some features are added or improved, such as adding per-call sending function to the per-line blocking.
After the MPT's approval, NTT is supposed to begin the notification of the service and the confirmation of the customers' intention in regards to the blocking option.
Outlines of the services is following;
1. "Number Display"
(1)The service function
This service is to transfer the calling party's number or other information to the called party and display the information on the called party's telephone set before the telephone is answered. To be displayed the information, a special adapter or telephone set is needed.
The information transferred to the subscriber and the example of the messages to be displayed on the telephone set is shown below. The messages may differ depending on telephone sets.

(2) Primary usage
1)Store the calling party's number of the calls that come in when the subscriber is out or unable to answer and confirm the calling party's number later.
(3) Service conditions
This service can be provided for PSTN service user, VPN service user and ISDN service user.
* The service may be unavailable within some areas due to switch inadequacies.
(4)Request for the subscriber
The subscriber of the service is requested to use the telephone number obtained by the service according to the "Guideline", which the MPT established last November aiming to ensure the adequate use of calling party's information including its telephone number by the subscriber.
2. "Number Announce"
(1) The service function
This service is to notify the subscriber the number of the last call with voice message. The subscriber can be notified by dialing "136". After that, by dialing "3", the subscriber can call back to the notified number.
(2) Primary usage
1)Confirm the calling party's number in case when the subscriber is out or unable to answer.
(3) Service conditions
This service can be provided for PSTN service user.
(4)Request for the subscriber
The subscriber of the service is requested to use the telephone number obtained by the service according to the "Guideline", which the MPT established last November aiming to ensure the adequate use of calling party's information including its telephone number by the subscriber.
3. Functions for sending or blocking the telephone number
(1) Blocking options
At the provision of "" Display""and "Number Announce", the telephone service will be changed into the system where the calling party's number will be transferred to the called party by ordinary dialing.
(2) Functions to change the transferred number for the users of a multi-hunting group, a Direct Inward Dialing / Direct Outward Dialing (DID/DOD) system and toll-free service.
Users of a multi-hunting group, a DID/DOD system and toll-free service can use the following functions and send the pre-assigned telephone number other than the number of actually using line.
4. Calls of interconnecting calls.
Following calls will be transferred and displayed at the beginning of the services on a commercial basis.
5.The service rates
(1)"Number Display", "Number Request" and "Number Announce"
(2)Functions for sending or blocking the telephone number
6. Schedule
"Number Display" and "Number Announce" will be provided in October 1997 in the trial area, Yokohama(045), Nagoya(052), Hukuoka(092) and in February 1998 in the rest of the country.*
7. Others
The details of the plan to confirm the intention of the blocking options and take orders of the services will be announced after the approval of the MPT.

With this change, following two blocking options will be provided in order for telephone users to control sending or blocking their telephone numbers.
In the area other than the trial area, before providing the service, NTT will notify the telephone users the services contents and blocking option, and confirm the intention of each of telephone users as to which blocking option he/she will use.
*:"Toll-free number transfer function" will be provided in February 1998 in the trial area.
