NTT to Take Part in Geneva's Telecom Interactive 97
Nippon Telegraph and Telephone Corporation (NTT) will participate in Telecom Interactive 97, to be held September 8-14 at the PALEXPO international exhibition site in Geneva, Switzerland.Telecom Interactive 97, which is sponsored by the International Telecommunication Union (ITU), will be the first international exhibition with the theme of the newest types of multimedia for interactive use, regardless of time and distance.
The event underscores the rapidly changing multimedia related technologies and businesses now emerging around the globe. Approximately 200 of the world's major carriers and multimedia companies will hold exhibits at the seven-day event, which expects to host up to 30,000 visitors.
As NTT is launching all-out international business operations from this year, it has adopted "Your Choice, NTT GLOBAL SOLUTIONS," as its slogan at the exhibition, where it will focus on the NTT Group's multimedia technologies and strengths.
Among NTT's main exhibits will be a "Medical Tele-Education Support System"; a combination of intellectual education system via network of Ultrahigh-Resolution Display (resolution 2048 x 2048); a PHS-based "Personal Multimedia Communication"; a "Wristwatch-Type PHS" with voice recognition technology; a telecommunication system by "PHS/GSM Dual Mode Handset"; and a "Secure Remote Access System" focusing on security. Also included will be a presentation of global telecommunication operations, made by one of NTT's subsidiaries (NTT WORLDWIDE TELECOMMUNCIATIONS CORPORATION). Through a hot line set up between Geneva and Tokyo, demonstrations will also be conducted of interactive multimedia telecommunications, such as music database search and live picture transmissions.
NTT Senior Executive Vice President Toshiharu Aoki is scheduled to deliver a keynote speech at the "Future Trends" session of the Internet forum to be held on Sunday, September 14, the last day of the exhibition.
Through its broad range of telecommunications services, NTT anticipates the exhibition will afford it with numerous opportunities to introduce the world to the diverse multimedia technologies of the NTT Group
