NTT MSC Sdn. Bhd. Begins Operation

Nippon Telegraph and Telephone Corporation (NTT) announced today the establishment of NTT MSC Sdn. Bhd., a wholly owned subsidiary company that carries out R&D and other telecommunications businesses in Malaysia starting today.

NTT, which has been participating in Malaysia's Multimedia Super Corridor (MSC) project since the designing stage, has been awarded "MSC status" by the Malaysian government, which provides financial and other incentives to companies that can contribute significantly to the project. With this status, NTT MSC carries out telecommunications businesses in Malaysia, and acts as the center of R&D activities for the Asian region.

The current NTT Malaysia Office will be closed after transferring all operations to the new subsidiary. NTT MSC will operate from a temporary office in Kuala Lumpur while its new office, including the R&D center, is being built at Cyberjaya, an intelligent city which is expected to become the core of the Multimedia Super Corridor. The new office is scheduled to be completed by the end of next year.

Initial capital: 26 million ringgit (1.1 billion yen, 100% owned by NTT)
Location: Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia
President:Akio Hotta (currently General Manager, Kuala Lumpur Regional Office)
Staff: 30 (to be expanded as needed)
Operations: 1. Research and Development
R&D activities for multimedia network technology, multimedia application software and others. In addition, joint R&D projects with organizations and universities located in the MSC area are being considered.

2. System Integration
Comprehensive system integration for intelligent city-related operations and information system development for MSC companies.

3. Global Telecommunications Operations
We are working towards providing global telecommunications services by March 1998 to Malaysian, Japanese, European, American and other multinational corporations.
