NTT to Make Strategic Investment in U.S.- Based Teligent



Nippon Telegraph and Telephone Corporation (NTT) signed an agreement in Tokyo today with Teligent, a fixed wireless local access carrier, to acquire 12.5% interest* of the U.S.-based company for US$100 million. The agreement was signed by Teligent Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Alex J. Mandl and NTT President Jun-ichiro Miyazu.

NTT will appoint one director to Teligent's board, as well as dispatch engineers to assist with Teligent's network design, network management and deployment of advanced services.

Initially, the two companies will focus on NTT's provision of technical support for Teligent's network design. In light of the strong potential of the U.S. local-access market and Teligent's potential strength in the market, NTT decided to become a partner in the firm.
