NTT Participates in the Submission of Tender for Public Basic Telecommunication Services And Public Cellular Mobile Telephone Services in Singapore

Nippon Telegraph and Telephone Corporation (NTT) - through a consortium called StarHub - made a tender to the Telecommunication Authority of Singapore (TAS) on December 29, 1997 for a license to provide basic telecommunication services and public cellular mobile telephone services in Singapore. Other members of the StarHub consortium include Singapore Technologies Telemedia (STT), Singapore Power (SP) and British Telecom (BT).

Tender application closed on December 31, 1997. The results is expected to be announced in mid-1998.

Singapore plans to allow entry of up to two new companies in both public basic telecommunication services and public cellular mobile telephone services by April 2000. At present, one company alone provides basic telecommunication services and two companies provide cellular mobile services in Singapore.
