NTT Applies to Offer the Digital Access 1500 Service

Nippon Telegraph and Telephone Corporation (NTT) applied on March 19 to the Minister of Posts and Telecommunications for a license to expand its Digital Access menu with a new 1.5 Mb/s service for within a limited range.

NTT previously launched the Digital Access 64 and 128 services to meet demands for low-cost leased circuit service for corporate networks and Internet access. In recent years, however, while customers have remained cost-conscious, the need for higher-speed services has increased. NTT expects to meet this need with the new Digital Access 1500 Service, which will use the New Optical Access System for advanced services at internationally competitive rates.
