NTT to Unify Calculation Periods for Basic Monthly Charge and Call Charges
Nippon Telegraph and Telephone Corporation (NTT) has announced that it will unify the calculation periods for the basic monthly charge and monthly call charges pending approval of the Minister of Posts and Telecommunications. Under the current system, the basic monthly charge is based on calendar months, while call charges are based on monthly cycles using one of six different starting dates t hat are set by NTT. In response to comments that the differences are difficult to understand, NTT reviewed its billing practices and decided to unify the calculation periods for enhanced customer service. Accordingly, the basic monthly charges will be matched to the specific calculation cycle used for call charges. NTT hopes to implement the new system for telephone lines this October, and at a later period as preparations are completed for other services, including leased lines and packet switching. NTT will announce the change in enclosures sent with billing statements, on the reverse side of statements, in newspaper ads, and through other channels.
