NTT Submits Revised Articles of Interconnection   Agreement to MPT Minister for Authorization

Nippon Telegraph and Telephone Corporation (NTT) today submitted for authorization by the Minister of Posts and Telecommunications a plan to revise the corporation's Articles of Agreement Concerning Interconnection to Designated Telecommunications Facilities. NTT has been promoting interconnection with other carriers by drafting the new Articles concerning procedures, charges and technical requirements based on the Basic Rules for Interconnection, which were incorporated into the revised Telecommunications Business Law enacted in November 1997. The corporation submitted a plan for initial revision of the Articles in January, which was approved in March. The latest revisions cover new interconnection conditions to be introduced this October, which NTT developed to meet the needs of other telecommunication carriers, including: - Interconnections with PHS (Personal Handy-Phone System) carriers, via   long-distance carriers, at NTT's local switches. - Interconnections between cable television carriers and other carriers   via NTT's tandem switches. - Interconnections that establish points of interface (POIs) at other   telecommunicationcarriers' buildings. NTT plans to implement the new revisions soon after receiving the Minister's authorization. NTT also submitted for the minister's authorization a plan to revise the corporation's Articles of Agreement Concerning Interconnection to Non-Designated Telecommunications Facilities.
