NTT's Joint Venture with Beijing Telecommunications Administration and Other Businesses in China

Nippon Telegraph and Telephone Corporation (NTT), with the Beijing Telecommunications Administration (BTA), has established a joint venture company, Beijing Telecom NTT Engineering Co., Ltd., and will inaugurate the provision of a system integration service mainly in the area of the City of Beijing.

Also, NTT Worldwide Telecommunications Corporation (NTT-WT), an NTT Group company, and China Telecom under China's Ministry of Information Industry, are scheduled at the end of the year to begin international telecommunications services between Japan and China by interconnecting their networks.

NTT has over the years built a relationship of enduring trust and confidence with the Chinese Government and telecommunications operators. In line with the NTT Group's launch of global businesses, NTT wishes to contribute further to the development of China's telecommunications industry by involving itself more vigorously in business activities in the country.

1. Establishment of Beijing Telecom NTT Engineering Co., Ltd.

NTT and BTA (Director: Ni Yilin) have established a joint venture, Beijing Telecom NTT Engineering Co., Ltd. (BNTE; Chairman: Chen Weijun; President: Yamata Ueda). BNTE will start operations from September. The capital of the new company is US$3,000,000, of which US$1,470,000 has been provided by NTT (Investment share: 49%)

BNTE, NTT's joint venture in China following Shanghai NTT Telecommunications Engineering Co., Ltd. (SNTE) serving in the Shanghai area, will provide a system integration service, including construction and maintenance of telecommunications networks for corporate customers mainly in the area of Beijing, thus contributing to the development of the city's telecommunications services.

2. Provision of International Telecommunications Service between Japan and China by Interconnection of NTT-WT and China Telecom

By establishing mutual interconnections, NTT-WT and China Telecom will provide international frame-relay services between Japan and China by the end of this year to almost all areas of China. This measure will enable the provision of high-quality international telecommunications services between the two countries, and is expected to be especially useful to Japanese corporations operating in China. In the future, NTT-WT and China Telecom will offer an even wider range of services including IP backbone services.

BNTE and SNTE will provide customer support on the Chinese side for these telecommunications services between the two countries.
