Nippon Telegraph and Telephone Corporation (NTT) has applied to the Minister of Posts and Telecommunications for approval of a nationwide Time Plus service, as well as for INS Time Plus. Time Plus, which is currently available in Tokyo and adjacent prefectures, offers customers discounts on long-duration local calls.
Following the implementation of Time Plus this February in the Tokyo metropolitan area, NTT decided to review frequency of utilization and cost savings by customers' businesses, and to discuss the situation with the aim of expanding the service nationwide.
Results of this review showed that an increase in communications by subscribers to this service can be expected. NTT will meet customers' demand for lower rates on local calls in all areas by expanding the service nationwide under the same conditions.
In response to ISDN customers' demands, NTT also plans to initiate the INS Time Plus as the number of Internet users increases.
