NTT Adds New Functions to Internet E-mail Agent Software

Nippon Telegraph and Telephone Corporation (NTT) has added new functions to its AgentAction Internet e-mail agent software program that went on sale last September.

About AgentAction

AgentAction is a server e-mail program for automatically forwarding (and confirming), deleting and replying to e-mail according to user preferences, which can be set by sender address, subject, document content or arrival time/day. Preferences are easily set with a WWW browser or e-mail.

AgentAction can also forward e-mail to facsimile machines and mobile phones when used in combination with services and products such as WebDeFax*1, tegarusu*2 or e-mail-compatible mobile phones.

AgentAction is presently bundled with Satispac*3 and Multinet Debut*4.

New Functions

The following new functions make it even more convenient to use AgentAction outside the office (see Attachment):

1) Changing user preferences by telephone*5

Users can set preferences by mobile/general telephone, instead of the Web environment, for added convenience when outside the office, such as during a business trip.

2) Changing settings from portable terminals

Users can also set preferences via mobile terminal (PDA, etc.) browsers. This is especially useful for changing or canceling a forwarding address from outside the office.

3) Specified duration for temporary settings

Temporary settings, such as automatic forwarding of e-mail while on a business trip, can be automatically removed after a specified time period elapses.

Future Plans

AgentAction loaded with these new functions will start shipping from around June. Prices will be 148,000 yen for the WindowsNT version and 398,000 yen for the Solaris version.

NTT will exhibit the latest versions of AgentAction at Business Show '99 in Tokyo from May 18 to 21 and at Interop '99 in Makuhari from June 2 to 4.

Notes:

*1 WebDeFax:

An NTT product's unified messaging system that enables e-mail messages and attached files to be sent to and received from facsimiles, using a WWW browser or e-mail software.

*2 tegarusu:

An NTT service that enables e-mail messages and attached files to be sent to facsimile machines via the Internet.

*3 Satispac:

An NTT Internet solution package comprising a Web server and mail server preinstalled in a WindowsNT server.

*4 Multinet Debut:

NTT's complete Internet package for corporate users, including personal computer, terminal adapter or router, server software, etc.

*5 Requires WebDeFax, as well as AgentAction.
