Driving Cybercrime Countermeasure Reinforcement through Participation to the NCFTA (National Cyber-Forensics and Training Alliance)
- Reinforcement of the cybercrime countermeasure on the global scale by cooperation among law enforcement agencies, enterprises and academic organizations -

NTT, Nippon Telegraph and Telephone Corporation participated to the NCFTA (National Cyber-Forensics and Training Alliance) for the first time not only as a Japanese enterprise but also as a leading carrier in Asia.

NCFTA, a non-profit organization that was created in 2002, is the global model for public and private partnerships and information sharing. It has established an expansive alliance between subject matter experts in the public and private sectors (more than 500) with the goal of addressing complex and often internationally-spawned cybercrimes.

Currently, in order to cope with cyber-attacks coming across national borders, globalization of its activities is much more needed.

NTT will perform cyber security maintenance and improvement of the NTT group in the global scale and contribute to cybercrime countermeasure reinforcement for the world with corporate social responsibility

• Background

Against the menace of the cyber security which is more increasing these days, it can realize quick and effective countermeasure that law enforcement agencies, private enterprises and academic organizations do cybercrime information sharing and operation cooperation for cybercrime mitigation.

In such a situation, NTT decided to participate to NCFTA because global level of reinforcement and cooperation on cybercrime countermeasure must be an urgent issue for NTT group companies, too.

• Summary of Activities

NTT-CERT* will play a role of a point of contact to the NCFTA and NTT will be able to realize cyber security maintenance and improvement of the NTT group, through the effective incident responses by quickly sharing cybercrime information such as computer virus, counterfeit of appliance/device, and various kinds of unauthorized deeds via the Internet.

NTT can contribute to quicker and more effective correspondences against the cyber security menace of the future, because NTT-CERT has been doing share of vulnerability information and offering the point of contact functions in security incident responses those of which have a high affinity to NCFTA's activities.

Besides, a synergy in malware analyzing is expected by the cooperation with NCFTA because the malware analysis team of NTT Secure Platform Laboratories holds world eminent advanced technologies in a malware analysis area such as honeypot, static / dynamic analyzing, blacklists, etc.

Moreover, NTT will drive continuous actions for cybercrime countermeasure reinforcement for the world

<Glossary>

1. Forensics
The practice of gathering, retaining, and analyzing computer-related data for investigative purposes in a manner that maintains the integrity of the data.

2. Cybercrime information
DDoS (Distributed Denial of Services), bot-net, phishing, malware, counterfeit of appliance and device, internet/communication fraud, money mule, unauthorized dealings in underground markets, espionage, hacktivism, etc.

3. Cybercrime mitigation
take-down of compromised servers / personal computers, malware removal, warning for users regarding countermeasure, etc.

4. CSIRT
Abbreviation of Computer Security Incident Response Team whose capability is set up for the purpose of assisting in responding to computer security-related incidents.
