Tokyo. — November 5, 2020 — NTT Corporation (TYO:9432), today announced that its participation in the Science Based Targets (SBT) 1, an international climate change initiative, in its environmental and energy vision announcement for zero environmental impact in May 2020, and has now obtained SBT certification 2.
NTT group will steadily promote initiatives based on SBT, such as the use of renewable energy 3, so that we achieve zero environmental impact and contribute to the reduction of the environmental impact of our customers, companies, and society.
|1 Science Based Targets (SBT)||Scientifically based greenhouse gas emission reduction targets for corporates in accordance with the Paris Agreement. The SBT initiative, a climate change initiative by the United Nations Global Compact (UNGC), the CDP (formerly the Carbon Disclosure Project), the World Resources Institute (WRI), and the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF), designates the targets.
NTT’s target is classified to be aligned with the “well-below 2 degrees”.
|2 obtained SBT certification||We received a notice of approval dated October 30, 2020 from the secretariat of the SBT initiative.|
|3 the use of renewable energy||As part of our efforts to promote the use of renewable energy, we are switching the electricity used in facilities owned by NTT Office at Otemachi First Square, NTT Musashino R&D Center, NTT Atsugi R&D Center, NTT Yokosuka R&D Center, and NTT Tsukuba R&D Center to substantially renewable electricity by utilizing non-fossil certificates designated as renewable energy for 100% of the electricity used.|
